Headman/Manhead, Po Na Na, Brighton, Fri, Dec 15

From the The Argus, first published Friday 15th Dec 2006.

Fresh from his sets at Fabric's Soulwax Weekender, Robi Insinna makes his only 2006 Brighton appearance under his electro guise of Headman/Manhead.

The Swiss producer has spent the last year travelling the world with Soulwax and is seen as a figurehead of the new disco scene.

Robi is a true 21st Century renaissance man.

As well as producing his own work, he has remixed for the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Yello, Placebo and Mylo. He's an exciting DJ who flits from The Hacienda to Chi-town to the Balearics to rock - and he's also a respected artist who has exhibited all over Europe.

For the past five years he has run his own label, Relish Recordings, which he founded in 2001 to reflect his devotion to dance music, specifically electro-rock, Italo disco, techno and house.

The label has just released its first compilation and tracks include the sleazy electro-pop of Yuksek's Sorry, David Gilmour Girls' deliciously Balearic-acid Crackhousewarmingparty and Franz And Shape's stomping Tightrope.

As Headman, he's released several 12ins and two albums, It Rough (2001) and On (2006), about which Mojo mag said, "Insinna leaves ragged edges unsoothed, thriving on the chaos". It was his own single, Birth, School, Work, Death which gave Relish Recordings its biggest hit.

On top of everything else, Robi's projects are notable for their artwork, which he designs himself.

The On album includes a 16-page booklet containing paintings representing every song on the CD.
