Rowing pains

From the archive, first published Saturday 30th Nov 2002.

Few people would be as brave as Sally Kettle and Marcus Thompson who are preparing to row across the Atlantic.

Their participation in the race is even more remarkable because neither of them has rowed before at all.

What's more, they've set themselves the daunting challenge of raising £1 million for a charity to raise awareness of epilepsy.

They will also have to deal with any seizures Marcus may have, as a man who is affected by epilepsy.

Giant waves, tankers, tiredness and sharks are all possible obstacles for this bold and intrepid couple.

They are unlikely to come first in the race but in making people more aware of epilepsy, a condition which still attracts stigma, they will be winners.
